somewhere between sculpture and social commentary. Rising from a weathered steel base, one form reaches upward—smooth, refined, and determined in its movement. Wrapped against it is a second presence: a gnarled, worm-worn piece of black walnut that appears to resist, restrain, or perhaps simply refuse to let go.
The contrast between the two elements drives the piece. Clean ambition against entrenched weight. Forward motion against inherited obstruction. The dialogue is unmistakably contemporary, but rendered through material rather than metaphor alone.
Despite its sharp title, the work holds complexity. Neither side is villainized. Instead, the vase captures the awkward gravity of transition—generations pulling against one another while still bound to the same structure.
